The Vintage Bronze St. Anne de Beaupré Shrine Medal shows a crowned, haloed woman in heavy robes holding a crowned child at her shoulder, the child's hand reaching up to touch her face. The pair are St. Anne and her daughter Mary, and the crowns and stiff robes tell you the model was a dressed and crowned shrine statue rather than a painting.
The reverse names the shrine, lettered in French across six short lines: DE SAINTE ANNE DE BEAUPRE, of Saint Anne de Beaupré. The basilica on the St. Lawrence in Québec has drawn pilgrims since the seventeenth century, many of them coming to ask the grandmother of Christ for healing, and pieces like the original went home in their pockets. St. Anne remains the patroness of mothers, grandmothers and Québec itself.
