Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary and grandmother of Jesus Christ; with her husband St. Joachim, named in tradition (Protoevangelium of James) rather than canonical Scripture. One of the most popular saints of the Middle Ages, patroness of mothers, grandmothers, and Brittany. Feast July 26.
