The Vintage Bronze St. Anne and the Child Mary Medal is shaped like a small shrine, an arched niche with flowers set into the spandrels and a scalloped floral apron across the foot. Within it stand two crowned figures in wide bell-shaped mantles, a tall one and a small one at her side, with little kneeling forms and flowers gathered at their feet. A slender flowering stem runs the length of the reverse.
This is the vested statue of St. Anne, mother of the Blessed Virgin, shown with Mary still a child beside her, the form venerated at the great shrines of Brittany and Quebec. St. Anne is kept as the patron of mothers and grandmothers, of childbirth and of the teaching of the young, and there is no lettering on the medal because the two crowned figures say all of it. A piece of this kind has long passed between the generations of a family.
