The Delicate Two-Sided Crucifix is finished on both of its faces. The front carries the corpus against arms that open into fanned floral sprays, with a crown-shaped crest above the head and a pierced palmette below the feet. Turned over, the same cross shows no figure at all: the shaft is worked as a herringbone leaf spine with a small rosette at the crossing.
Finishing both sides is the mark of the better antique work, and it matters on a piece that is seen from every angle rather than only from the front. The openwork keeps the cross light for its size, and the deep piercing takes the antiquing well, so the pattern stays legible instead of filling in.
