The Vintage Sterling Silver Sacred Heart Openwork Rosary Center is as much line as mass. Thin curved bars open on either side of a small shield and close above it in a cross-shaped finial, and on the front of the shield sits a full heart encircled by a band of thorns, flame breaking at its crest, cast in soft relief against a stippled ground. It is the Sacred Heart reduced to essentials in half an inch of silver.
The other face carries a veiled head in profile against a plain nimbus, worked more shallowly than the heart. The devotion to the Sacred Heart, as it spread out of seventeenth-century France, was never far from his mother, and centers of this kind were commonly given one face to each. Neither side is lettered; the two images say all of it between them.
This sterling silver rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
