Vintage Sterling Silver Holy Spirit Dove Rosary Center

This rosary center is an open ring rather than a solid plate. Two curling bands form the circle, and across the opening a dove flies with its wings spread and its tail fanned, so that daylight shows through on either side of it. A leafy sprig runs below the beak and a small flower with a round bead finishes the foot.
The descending dove is the Church's oldest image of the Holy Spirit — the form in which he came down over the Jordan at the baptism of Christ, and the sign of Pentecost in the upper room. The sprig recalls that other dove, the one that came back to the ark with word that the water had gone down. Set where the mysteries turn from one decade to the next, the dove stands at exactly the point where the rosary asks for light, and the pierced frame keeps it bright against the strand.
