The Vintage Bronze Veiled Madonna in Profile with Roses sets a veiled head within a scrolled shield, the face turned to the right and inclined downward, the veil falling in long unbroken folds across the shoulder. A star with rays rises behind at the upper left and a rose with its leaves is set at the lower right, so the two attributes balance the composition without crowding it. The lines are drawn out in the Art Nouveau manner, with real delicacy.
Both attributes are Mary’s own: Stella Maris, star of the sea, the light held out to travellers, and the rose of the Rosary itself, whose name means a garland of roses offered to her. The bowed head and flowing veil are how French medalwork of the late nineteenth century pictured the Blessed Virgin, and the attitude is the one the rosary asks of the person praying it, a head bent in listening.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
