Vintage Bronze Urn-Form Rosary Center

The Urn-Form Rosary Center is cast in the shape of a classical urn. Scrolled volutes turn outward at either side where the handles would be, a lidded finial sits above, and the body narrows to a small footed base. It is an unusual shape for a center, closer to a piece of classical furniture than to the usual oval, and a softly worn relief fills the panel on its face.
The urn is among the oldest emblems of remembrance and of prayer for the dead, carried into Christian art from Roman funerary monuments and used through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries wherever mourning was given a form. A rosary built around this center is a rosary with a purpose: the beads said for the departed, and the shape at the join of them saying so plainly.
The urn-form center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
