The Vintage Bronze Trinity-Form Crucifix is generous in every dimension. Each of the four arms opens into three broad lobes with a raised rosette at its heart, scrolled ornament fills the field around the crossing, and the corpus is modelled in high relief with the head inclined to the right. At two and a quarter inches it has the weight and presence of a French rosary pendant made to be handled daily.
The three-lobed ends give the crucifix its name. A trefoil has been read as an emblem of the Trinity since the Middle Ages, three lobes on one stem, the same argument Patrick is said to have made with a shamrock in his hand. Repeating it at the four ends of a cross says that the Father, the Son and the Spirit are all present at Calvary, and not the Son alone. It is a large idea carried lightly on a small object.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
