Vintage Bronze Trinity Cross with Hands from Heaven

The Vintage Bronze Trinity Cross gathers a great deal into one heavy, blocky form. Christ hangs at the center, and behind him stands a much larger figure whose arms open out along the arms of the cross, holding him and holding the whole piece together. From the top of the upright two hands reach down out of heaven, and along each arm a row of small figures stands shoulder to shoulder.
This is the old Throne of Mercy image, the Father upholding the crucified Son with the blessing coming down from above, redrawn in a bold mid-century European hand. The little figures ranged along the arms are the people the cross is stretched over, and that is the point of the whole composition: the Trinity is not a diagram but a shelter. The flattened relief reads clearly at arm's length and gives the piece real presence for its size.
This cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
