Vintage Bronze St. Joseph Medallion Under an Arch

The St. Joseph medallion is a shrine in miniature. Beneath a leafy arch carried on two columns stands a haloed figure in long robes, a staff held diagonally across his body and a small child at his side, the traditional image of Saint Joseph with the Christ Child and his flowering rod. A branch in blossom fills the opening at the left, and a scrolled shell closes the base.
The flowering rod comes from the old story of Joseph's choosing, when among all the suitors' staffs his alone broke into bloom. He is invoked as patron of workers, of fathers and of a peaceful death, the guardian given no words at all in the Gospels and no hesitation either. Setting a saint inside his own carved doorway is a long Iberian habit, and the antique original is Spanish work.
The St. Joseph medallion was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
