St. Joseph
Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and foster-father of Jesus, of the house of David (Mt 1; Lk 1-2); carpenter of Nazareth, righteous man who protected the Holy Family in flight to Egypt. Patron of the Universal Church (declared by Pius IX, 1870), workers, fathers, and a happy death; principal feast March 19, with St. Joseph the Worker on May 1.
