The St. Joan of Arc Rosary Center holds a medallion of the saint in bust profile, her head slightly raised, armor across her shoulders and a rayed nimbus behind her. A sword stands upright before her, point down, and the medallion sits in an openwork frame of scrolled foliage gathered into a flourish at the base.
Around the rim runs STE JEANNE D'ARC, Saint Joan of Arc, in the French of the original. A farm girl from Domremy who led an army at seventeen and was burned at nineteen, Joan was canonized in 1920 and is kept as patron of France and of soldiers, and more broadly by anyone who has had to hold to a conviction alone. The sword and the halo together tell the whole of her story: the soldier and the saint, refusing to be separated.
