The Vintage Bronze St. Hermes Medal, Ronse packs a great deal into a small disc. The principal face carries the saint on horseback with his sword raised, riding down a crouching figure beneath the hooves. The opposite face is quieter: a gabled shrine chest standing on a low base, ringed by its own Latin legend.
Around the horseman runs the invocation SANCTE HERMES ORA PRO NOBIS, Saint Hermes, pray for us, with ROTHNACI cut below, the Latin name of Ronse in Flanders, where the relics of the saint are kept and carried in procession. The reverse asks deliverance a daemonio, from the demon, and by the intercession of the saint; Hermes has been called on for centuries by those who feel themselves under assault in mind or in spirit. The chest on that face is the shrine at Ronse itself.
