The Vintage Bronze Small Openwork Cross is almost all air. Each of its four equal arms is drawn as two curved bars that spring apart from the center and meet a short cross-bar tipped with three round balls, twelve in all, so that the metal traces the shape and the eye fills in the rest.
The form is the Occitan or Toulouse cross of the Languedoc in southern France, an emblem of that country for eight hundred years and long worn there as a devotional pendant as well as a badge of home. The twelve balls are read as the twelve apostles. With no corpus and no lettering, the piece is a pure line drawing in cast metal, and it wears very lightly for its size.
The Occitan cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
