Product Details

The Vintage Bronze Scrollwork Crucifix with Banner Titulus is drawn in curling scrollwork. The arms taper and lift slightly at the ends, where the metal rolls over into volutes, and a matching pair of scrolls fills the foot. Above the head of the corpus a small banner is furled across the upright, cast in the manner of a titulus.

That banner is the interesting part. The titulus is the board Pilate had fixed above the cross, and devotional workshops usually gave it as a flat plaque; here it is a ribbon, caught mid-furl, which is a Baroque idea carried down into small metalwork. It gives the top of the cross a little movement against the stillness of the figure below, and it turns a legal notice into something more like a proclamation. The scrolled terminals answer it, so the whole cross reads as a single continuous line rather than four straight arms, which is what makes a piece of this size feel light on a rosary.

The scrollwork crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
