Vintage Bronze Scrolled Openwork Crucifix

The Vintage Bronze Scrolled Openwork Crucifix is cut through into scrollwork. The arms and the foot open into curling volutes ending in small beaded tips, so light passes through the cross on either side of the corpus, and a rayed nimbus is set behind the head of Christ at the crossing. The figure is modelled in fine detail against all that open ground.
Above the crossbar sits a raised titulus lettered INRI, the Latin abbreviation of the charge Pilate ordered fixed over the cross, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, written in mockery and read ever since as the plain truth. A small crown closes the top of the shaft above it, answering the titulus in the same terms. The letters come through this casting cleanly, and at two inches the crucifix suits a rosary or wears well on its own.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
