The Vintage Bronze Papal Crucifix is built on a plain squared shaft with a short crossbar and no ornament whatever. The corpus is stylised rather than naturalistic: the arms bend sharply upward from the elbows, the head is bowed low onto the chest, and the folds of the loincloth are cut in simple parallel ridges. A small raised block above the head carries the titulus, INRI.
Those four letters stand for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the charge Pilate had fixed above the cross and meant as mockery, read ever since as plain truth. Crosses of this severe form became widely known through their use by the popes of the last century, and their appeal is entirely in restraint. No rays, no flourishes, no softening of the figure, only the man and the beam and the weight of the metal in the hand.
The papal crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
