The Vintage Bronze Our Lady and the Child Rosary Center is worked entirely in openwork. A small veiled figure of the Virgin stands on a low base with the Child close at her side, framed by an oval of vine scrollwork, five-petalled star flowers and pierced tracery, with a trefoil crest rising above her head.
The center is where the eye returns at the beginning and the end of every set of mysteries, and old makers gave it their most careful modeling for exactly that reason. Because this one is pierced right through, light passes behind the Virgin and holds her clear of her frame instead of letting her sink into it. The flowers belong to the rosary itself: a rosarium is a rose garden before it is anything else, and each Ave was once counted as a rose laid at her feet. There is no lettering on the piece, and none is needed.
The rosary center was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
