Vintage Bronze Open Crown Crucifix, Elegant

The Vintage Bronze Open Crown Crucifix is pierced right through. Each of the four arms ends in an open crown of three points, and the field around the corpus has been cut away, so that what you see is largely outline, the cross drawn in air rather than filled in metal. The figure of Christ is slender and elongated, in keeping with the lightness of everything around it.
The crowns are the point of the design. The one Christ wore on the cross was made of thorns and meant as mockery; the four here are the crowns of a king, set at the ends of the arms as though the cross itself had been enthroned. It is the reversal the whole Passion turns on, worked into ornament. Openwork of this kind also asks a great deal of a caster, since the thin sections have to run true or the piece fails in the mould.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
