The Vintage Bronze Mother of Good Counsel Medal is filled almost edge to edge by the Virgin and Child pressed cheek to cheek, each in a rayed halo, her veil drawn close and his small arm laid across her shoulder. It is one of the tenderest of all Marian images, and the rim carries its name: MATER DE BONO CONSILIO, Mother of Good Counsel.
That title belongs to a much-copied fresco of the Mother and Child venerated at Genazzano, and the devotion behind it is a practical one. Mary is asked here not for a miracle but for advice, by people facing a decision they cannot see their way through. The reverse carries a second half-length figure, veiled and haloed, her hands drawn together at the breast with faint rays behind her head: the same counsel, offered in silence.
