Vintage Bronze Mission Souvenir Crucifix, Budded Ends

This mission crucifix carries the corpus of Christ with the INRI titulus above his head, and the four arm ends are filled with budded, rose-like bosses. The back is plain but for the raised words SOUVENIR DE MISSION set across the crossbar, the souvenir of a mission.
A parish mission in France meant a week or two of preaching, of confessions heard from morning until night, and of baptismal promises renewed at the end, and it closed with a cross put into the hand of each person who had made it. That cross went home to be hung by a bed or carried in a pocket as the reminder of what had been decided. INRI is the charge Pilate had nailed above him, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, written in earnest without knowing it.
This mission crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
