The Vintage Bronze Lourdes Crucifix is worked almost entirely in pierced squares. Each of the four arms ends in a diamond-shaped lozenge cut through with a grid of small openings, and smaller pierced quatrefoils mark the crossing and run down the shaft behind the figure. The result is a cross that is as much air as metal, light to wear all day and open enough that the corpus reads clearly against it.
Pilgrim crucifixes in this lattice pattern were sold in quantity at Lourdes through the nineteenth century, carried home by people who had gone to the grotto to ask for something and wanted a token of the asking. There is no lettering and no titulus; the design stands on its own, one of the more delicate small crucifixes we offer, and a natural companion for anyone praying the Rosary in Our Lady's name.
The Lourdes crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
