The Vintage Bronze Little Hearts Rosary Center takes its name from its border, a ring of small hearts and rounded lobes cast openwork around the oval field. Within the oval, framed by a beaded rim, stands a haloed half-length figure with long loose hair and one hand raised in blessing, a large bird at the lower left. The relief is soft and the darkened ground throws the figure forward.
Hearts worked into a border are a quiet piece of devotional shorthand. They stand for the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the two hearts a rosary moves between as it goes, and a maker who ringed a center with them was framing the image in love rather than in ornament alone.
