The Vintage Bronze Latin American Madonna Star Rosary Center is built as a six-pointed star. Pierced arms tipped with round beads radiate from a small central disc, and within that disc stands a Virgin in the wide triangular mantle of a dressed shrine statue, a crown at her head and fine rays rising behind her. The openwork makes the piece look considerably larger than its inch across.

The cone-shaped mantle is the mark of the great colonial Virgins of Latin America, statues clothed and crowned by their communities and carried through the streets in procession on the patronal feast. The robe is real cloth on the original statues, stiffened and embroidered and often replaced by hand each year, and a medal that records that silhouette records a whole way of keeping a feast. The star around her carries its own Marian reading, Mary as the star of the sea and the woman clothed with the sun, and the pierced frame makes an unusually open, light-filled center for a rosary.
