At three inches the Vintage Bronze Large Crucifix with Two Praying Angels is the largest piece in this group, and it uses the room well. The arms end in cleft, budded terminals, a plain tablet above the head is lettered INRI, and below the crossbar two winged angels kneel facing inward toward the corpus, hands joined and heads bowed, their wings rising behind them and their robes breaking into scrolled foliage at the foot.
The inscription is the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” The angels are what make the crucifix unusual: instead of the mourners of Calvary, adoration itself is modelled at the foot of the cross, kneeling and still. That is the posture the piece quietly asks of whoever carries it, and at this size the modelling of the faces and the feathers stays fully legible.
