Vintage Bronze I Am the Immaculate Conception Plaque Medal

Each face of this bronze plaque medal is treated as a small relief picture. The front is the grotto: the Virgin standing with her hands joined in the rock niche above, a girl kneeling at prayer among the stones below, and the rocky overhang worked in deep, broken shadow across the top. The reverse carries a second scene, a robed figure standing above a kneeling woman and child.
Cast in a band across the foot are the words she gave when Bernadette asked her name at last: JE SUIS L'IMMACULEE CONCEPTION, I am the Immaculate Conception. It was an answer a girl of fourteen did not understand and repeated the whole way home so as not to lose it, spoken in a French hillside cave four years after the same doctrine had been defined in Rome.
The plaque medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
