The Vintage Bronze Franciscan Cross carries a full-length figure on one face: a friar in a hooded habit stands with the Infant Jesus gathered in his arms, the IHS monogram burning in a sunburst above his head. The side arms hold the Sacred Heart crowned with thorns and the Immaculate Heart pierced by a sword, each in its own burst of rays, and a small crowned shield sits at the foot.
The reverse is given entirely to words, laid along the arms of the cross: ECCE CRUCEM DOMINI, FUGITE PARTES ADVERSAE, Behold the Cross of the Lord; flee, ye hostile powers. It is one of the oldest protective invocations in the Latin Church, long carried by the Franciscans and said over the sick, over houses and over anyone setting out on a journey. Here it is set with no ornament at all, letters alone on bare metal, which gives it real force.
The cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
