The Vintage Bronze First Communion Medal gives the whole scene rather than a single kneeling figure: a priest at the altar rail laying the host on the tongue of a veiled girl, a line of communicants waiting, more kneeling behind, and the candles and processional cross of the church rising in the background. A panel below is lettered 1re COMMUNION.
The reverse is left open for a name. Two winged angels kneel facing one another, holding a blank oval cartouche between them ready to be engraved, and above them arches the promise PRECIEUX SOUVENIR SI VOUS ETES FIDELE, a precious remembrance, if you are faithful. The French makers understood a First Communion gift as something handed over for a lifetime, with a condition attached that the child would spend that lifetime growing into.
The First Communion medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.
