Product Details

On the front of this First Communion medal a veiled young woman raises her hands above a chalice, and rays break upward from it. The other face is given to a long-stemmed lily in Art Nouveau relief, with the inscription set around the flower and a name written in cursive along the lower edge.

The French reads SOUVENIR DE PREMIERE COMMUNION, 25 MAI 1902, a souvenir of a First Communion made on 25 May 1902. A medal of this kind was put into a child's hands on the morning of the day and kept for the rest of a life. The lily stands for the purity the day was understood to ask and to give, and the chalice pouring out light is the reason the day mattered at all. The cursive name is the one engraved on the antique original and it remains part of the design.

This First Communion medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
