The Vintage Bronze Eyes with Brows Milagro is a pair of wide-open eyes worked side by side, each with a ringed iris, a stippled lid and a long fan of engraved lashes sweeping up into the brow. It is a milagro, one of the small votive charms carried to shrines and pinned to holy images across Spain, Mexico and Latin America.
Milagros are offered two ways: in petition, for a healing still being asked for, and in thanksgiving, for a cure already received. Eyes are among the most common forms of all. They are brought for failing sight, before an operation, for a child who squints at the board at school, and by people asking for something harder to name, the grace to see a situation clearly at last.
