Vintage Bronze Crucifix with Rays and Crown

The Crucifix with Rays and Crown is built on a play of light. A broad fan of rays spreads out behind the crossing like a sunburst, and above the titulus a small crown rises from the top of the shaft. The arms taper to pointed, faceted terminals tipped with beads, with slender foliate sprays running out along them from the center.
The two additions turn the cross into a double statement. The rays are the glory of the Resurrection breaking out from the place of death, and the crown answers the crown of thorns with the real one, Christ reigning from the tree as the ancient hymn has it. The corpus itself is modelled with restraint, the body long and quiet against so much movement, and that stillness at the center is what holds the design together.
This crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
