Vintage Bronze Crucifix with Rayed Halo

The cross of the Vintage Bronze Crucifix with Rayed Halo is deliberately plain: flat rectangular arms with a recessed border running around the edge, and no ornament of any kind. All the modelling has gone into the figure, set in high relief beneath a large rayed halo that spreads wide enough to reach across the crossbar.
A small plate above the crossbar carries the letters INRI, the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The halo behind the head answers that title: light where the mockery was meant to be, glory already breaking out of the moment of death. The contrast between the flat ground and the deep figure is what makes the piece work. At an inch and a quarter it carries easily for daily wear.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
