The Vintage Bronze Crowned Christ Crucifix, Eastern Europe shows Christ crowned rather than thorned. The head is upright, the arms held straight along the crossbar, the long loincloth falling past the knees, and the whole bearing is that of a king rather than a victim. The face of the cross is filled edge to edge with a fine diamond diaper, worked to the ends of the arms and carried on into the raised block above the head.
This is an old way of reading the crucifixion, and Eastern Christendom has never let it go: the cross as a throne, the dying as a reigning, the crown given at the moment of defeat rather than after it. The original is Eastern European. At three inches the piece has real presence, and the deep texture keeps the surface alive even in low light.
The crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
