The Vintage Bronze Assumption Medal, Daughters of Mary is a large oval, an inch and three quarters long, showing the Virgin borne up on a bank of cloud with straight rays filling the whole field behind her. Her hands are crossed at the breast, a ring of stars circles her head, and beneath her feet the cloud is crowded with small angels and winged cherub heads. It is the Assumption in the grand Spanish manner, cut deep enough to hold real shadow.
The reverse reads ASOCIACION DE HIJAS DE MARIA — Association of the Daughters of Mary — around the interlaced A and M monogram, set above a crescent moon and ringed by twelve stars. Medals of this kind were given to members of the Children of Mary sodality and brought out at meetings and on feast days, and they are among the handsomest devotional objects the Spanish tradition produced.
