The Vintage Bronze Assisi Eucharistic Congress Medal has a real occasion behind it. One face shows Christ standing with both arms raised over a walled hill town, the IHS monogram in a rayed disc above him and ASSISI cut into the roofs below, with CONGRESSO EUCARISTICO NAZIONALE around the rim and XIII - ASSISI - 1951 closing it at the foot.
The other face is pure Eucharistic shorthand: a Chi-Rho monogram standing behind a basket of loaves with a fish beneath, lettered MISTERIUM FIDEI, the mystery of faith, the words spoken over the chalice. The date belongs to the original, struck for the thirteenth Italian National Eucharistic Congress held at Assisi in 1951, which makes this a fitting thing to give at a First Communion or on Corpus Christi.
