The four arms of the Vintage Bronze Art Deco Rayed Crucifix open into fanned, fluted shells built from graduated ribs that step outward from the center, so the whole cross radiates from its crossing. Against that geometry the corpus is slender and softly modelled, mounted on a plain raised shaft that runs the height of the piece.
Above the head a small tablet is lettered INRI, the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The streamlined symmetry is pure Art Deco, from the years when religious metalwork took up the same clean radiating lines as the architecture rising around it, and the effect is a crucifix that opens outward in every direction from the point where Christ is fixed.
The Art Deco rayed crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
