Every one of the four arms of this long white bronze crucifix ends in a trefoil cloverleaf, and every lobe carries a small cluster of dotted flowers, so clover seems to spread from the ends of the cross back toward the center. A further flower marks the middle of the lower shaft, a pierced crest tops the upright, and the corpus is slender and quietly modeled against all that growth.
A scrolled titulus above the head is lettered INRI, the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The trefoil ends carry their own old meaning, three lobes in one leaf for the Trinity, so the cross is flowering with the doctrine it proclaims. The pale white bronze keeps the ornament crisp and gives the piece the look of old silver, and at nearly three inches it has real presence.
