Vintage Bronze Trinity Crucifix with Pierced Terminals

Every terminal of the Trinity crucifix is cut through with three round openings, twelve in all, three at each of the four ends, and it is that steady repetition of threes that gives the piece its name. Behind the head of the corpus a rayed nimbus opens out, and a spray of foliage fills the foot of the cross, so the shape opens outward from a solid center.
The titulus above the head is lettered INRI, for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews, the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross. The threes gathered at every extremity turn the whole cross toward the Trinity, and the piercings let a little light through the outline, so the shape stays lively against clothing. Read slowly, it is a crucifix that keeps returning to the same number: the Father, the Son and the Spirit named at every end of the wood on which the Son died.
