The Vintage Bronze Russian Alaska Three-Bar Cross is plain and strong: rounded arm ends, a long lower blade, and the three-bar Orthodox cross raised at its center with the slanted footrest below. At the foot of that inner cross sits a skull with crossed bones, the old sign of Golgotha, where by tradition the blood of Christ ran down onto the grave of Adam.
The lettering is spare. ІС ХС at the ends of the crossbar is the ancient contraction for Jesus Christ, and the Г and А flanking the skull stand for the head of Adam. This is the cross form carried east across Siberia and on into the Russian missions of Alaska, where it was worn by Aleut and Yupik Christians as well as by the monks who brought it. The surfaces are otherwise left plain, so the antiquing pools in the relief.
The three-bar cross was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
