The Vintage Bronze Grand Baroque Crucifix is the most ornamented cross in this group. Every arm breaks into pierced acanthus leaf with a fleur-de-lis set at its heart, and a small crown-like crest rises above the titulus. Against all that movement the corpus is quiet, long and lightly modelled, the head fallen to the right.
The little plaque above the head carries four letters, INRI, for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. They are the charge Pilate ordered fixed to the cross, and the words the Church has kept above the corpus ever since. The pierced acanthus and fleur-de-lis terminals follow a French baroque pattern, the grand manner of the great altar crosses brought down to a size that can be held in the hand.
The Grand Baroque Crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
