The Caravaca Crucifix takes the double-barred form carried for centuries in Spain and across the Spanish Americas. The corpus hangs on the lower crossing, the shorter bar above it carries the titulus, two winged angels stand at the foot of the shaft, and beaded borders run the length of every arm.
Across the wide lower bar the name CARAVACA is divided in two, for Caravaca de la Cruz in Murcia, where the relic cross of that name has been honored for centuries and carried in procession each May. Above it, INRI abbreviates the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The Caravaca cross has long been kept as a cross of protection for the household and the traveler, which is why so many were made small enough to carry everywhere.
The Caravaca crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the cross's vintage character.
