Our Lady of Providence (also known as Our Lady of Divine Providence) is a beloved title of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This devotion originated in 13th-century Italy when St. Philip Benizi of the Servite Order prayed to Mary for help feeding his friars, and baskets of provisions miraculously appeared at the monastery door. The famous image, painted by Scipione Pulzone around 1580, depicts Mary tenderly holding the sleeping Child Jesus—a beautiful reminder that we can rest peacefully in her maternal care.
These Our Lady of Providence medals, available in 14K gold, Sterling Silver, and Gold-Filled, honor Mary as patroness of Puerto Rico (proclaimed by Pope Paul VI in 1969). Her feast day is November 19. Wearing this medal invites Mary's intercession and protection—particularly dear to Puerto Ricans and those of Italian heritage.
