The Vintage Yellow Bronze Heart and Cross Rosary Center lays a Latin cross across the middle of a pierced heart. The heart is filled with leaf and scroll ornament and drawn out into an open curve at the foot, and the cross is hatched all over in a fine woven pattern with a small rosette where the arms meet.
Heart and cross together make one of the oldest shorthands in Christian devotion, love and sacrifice set down in two shapes, each explaining the other. Placed at the center of a rosary the pairing keeps the whole prayer pointed at the Passion, and the piercing keeps the little piece light and lets the beads show through it. There is no lettering anywhere on it, and none is wanted; the design says what it has to say without words.
