The Vintage Yellow Bronze Baby Jesus in the Manger Ornament lays the Child on straw with a halo behind his head and one hand lifted, and packs the whole of Christmas in around him: the brick wall of the stable, a wooden fence at the right, and a great rayed star breaking over the scene from the upper corner. He is modelled fully in the round, so the light finds him first.
The frame is as carefully made as the scene inside it, a ribbon twisting all the way around the rim, studded with rows of beading and clasped by a small flower at the top and again at the bottom. The star is the one the wise men followed, set here at the hour before anyone had arrived. Hung on a tree at Christmas or kept out through the year, it holds the Nativity in the plainest terms the Church has: a child, a manger, and a light over them.
