The Vintage White Bronze Spanish Colonial Crucifix is the most sculptural piece in the group. The arms swell into deeply carved leaf forms shaded with fine hatching, openings are pierced through around the crossing, and below the feet the shaft spreads into a broad leafy skirt, with Christ modelled slender and elongated against all of it.
A scrolled cartouche above the head carries INRI, the Latin Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum, Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. The original came from the Philippines, where it had been mounted on an antique rosary, and it belongs to the Spanish Colonial devotional metalwork carried across the Pacific trade routes, a style known for exactly this abundance of carved leaf: faith that arrived with the galleons and was handed back richer than it came.
The Spanish Colonial crucifix was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the crucifix's vintage character.
