The Vintage Sterling Silver Small Mary with Lilies Miraculous Medal sets the Virgin in a border of flowers. She stands at the centre with her arms lowered and open and a nimbus behind her head, and sprays of lily blossom are applied at the crown of the frame, at both sides and again at the foot.
The Miraculous Medal came from the vision given to St. Catherine Laboure in Paris in 1830, in which Mary stood with rays of grace pouring from her open hands and asked that a medal be made to that pattern. The prayer runs around her in English, O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. The reverse carries the design she asked for: the cross and bar above the letter M, the twelve stars, and the two hearts below. The lily is Mary's own flower and the sign of purity.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA in sterling silver, using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
