The Vintage Sterling Silver Sacred Heart Marquise Medal takes the long pointed navette shape that French silversmiths loved. At its center is the Sacred Heart, wound about with the crown of thorns, flame at the top and a small cross rising above it, thrown forward by a burst of finely engraved rays that fills the whole field. A narrow border of small florets runs around the oval, and a fleur-de-lis stands at the top, at the foot and at either side.
The Sacred Heart is the devotion given to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque at Paray-le-Monial in the seventeenth century: the love of Christ shown as a human heart, crowned with thorns and burning. The fleur-de-lis set around it is France's own flower, and the two together speak for a whole French century of prayer. The antiqued finish sits down into the rays and the thorns and leaves the heart itself bright.
The medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves its vintage character.
