Product Details

A quatrefoil openwork medal from an antique French original. The Virgin stands free in the open center, veiled, her hands joined at her breast, while roses climb from a small disc at the base of the frame. The reverse shows the back of the standing figure and an ornamented monogram worked into that same disc.

The disc is dated 11 FEV. 1858 — the eleventh of February 1858, the day Bernadette Soubirous, gathering firewood by the river at Massabielle, first saw a lady standing in the hollow of the rock. Bernadette described a rose resting on each bare foot, and the roses climbing this frame belong to that account. The apparitions continued through the spring, and in March the lady gave her name: I am the Immaculate Conception. A date cast into a medal like this belongs to the antique original and to the event it records.

The Lourdes medal was faithfully reproduced from an antique original and cast in the USA in sterling silver, using a traditional fine-detail casting process that preserves the medal's vintage character.

  • Made in the USA
  • Artisan-cast from an antique original
  • Finished by hand, so every piece is subtly unique.
  • Buy the medal alone, or add an optional chain or cord necklace
  • Add a cord or chain to have it arrive assembled and ready to wear
  • Arrives in a deluxe velour jewelry box
