The Vintage Bronze Worn Crucifix from Antiquity is a crucifix that time has smoothed almost to a whisper. Christ stands with his arms straight out along a short crossbar, the face, hands and feet softened until only the essential shape remains, and two triangular openings are pierced through the field beneath the arms. A small clustered finial rises above the head.
Wear like this is the record of prayer. The original was carried, held and told over for generations until the metal itself gave way at the places a thumb keeps returning to, and what survives is the outline of the Crucifixion rather than its detail, which is what the eye of faith holds anyway. Nothing has been sharpened or restored: the erosion of the antique original is carried across exactly as it stands, so the piece comes to you already looking as though it has been kept in a pocket for years.
